What Is SEO?

SEO stands for “Search Engine Optimization.” It is the process of getting traffic/leads/clients/customers from the “free,” “organic,” or “natural” search results on search engines to your business website.

All major search engines such as Google, Bing, and Yahoo have primary search results, where web pages and other content such as videos or local listings are shown and ranked based on what the search engine considers most relevant to users. Payment isn’t involved, as it is with paid search ads which are called Adwords.

Some businesses use Adwords as well and they see good ROI with Adwords because they know how to do it or they give it to an SEM or Digital Marketing Consultant or agency to do that professionally for them. But at the end of the day, it can be so expensive to do Adwords and you end up spending lots of money on Google Ads.

You can get an SEO agency or an SEO Consultant in order to do SEO on your business website.

Few mistakes in SEO:

Not Optimizing for Long Tail Keywords

You might try to rank for very competitive and short keywords first, therefore it makes it very hard and time-consuming to rank with this strategy. They mostly go for keywords with higher search volume without deep research about the competition for that keyword. most likely the short-tail keywords with high search volume been noticed by many other SEO people and are competitive and everyone go for that. we don’t want to follow everyone from the beginning because we want to do Smart SEO.

Not Optimizing for Local Search

It’s important to search more about local keywords that is used by local people in search engines if you’re running a business that focuses on customers within a certain city or region. Most search engines, including Google, handle it a bit differently than keywords that are more global. you need to use region-specific keywords in your page titles and meta descriptions.

Not Optimizing for the Right Keywords

  • This is a big mistake. It’s easy to fall into the trap of optimizing for:
  • Global keywords, when you only offer services to local customers
  • Generic keywords that attract visitors who have no interest in what you’re offering
  • Keywords that only bring in visitors looking for free information, not prospective customers who are interested in buying something
  • Broad keywords that have lots of competition, maybe with several SEO experts working full-time to defend the first-page ranking.

and much more that you need to be aware of.

Today we have two types of SEO:

Desktop SEO: which is the search results (SERP) on a desktop computer/laptop

Mobile SEO: due to growth in mobile users. Ranking in mobile search results is different. There are other criteria as well in order to rank higher in the mobile search result.
